Ronald McDonald House Ireland
The Ronald McDonald House is situated on the grounds of Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin. The House provides accommodation for 20 families every night who have seriously ill children in hospital. Families can stay for a few days, several weeks or even months. The House provides wonderful support to families so they can be close to their sick child. Many families travel far from home to get treatment for their seriously ill or injured children. Often, it can be a long time to be away from home, from family and from friends. For children facing a serious medical crisis, nothing seems scarier than not having their mum and dad close by for love and support. The Ronald McDonald House program provides a “home-away-from-home” for families so they can stay close by their hospitalised child at very little cost. Our House is built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on healing their child – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they will lay their head at night to rest.
The Ronald McDonald House helps families to face the weight of illness together. Families are stronger when they are together, which helps in the healing process. By staying at a Ronald McDonald House, parents also can better communicate with their child’s medical team and keep up with complicated treatment plans when needed. They can also focus on the health of their child, rather than grocery shopping, cleaning or cooking meals. The House also enables the whole family to be together at this difficult time. Siblings can struggle during this difficult time but staying at the House keeps families close to each other and the sick child.
When your child is sick, you want the best care possible – even if it is hundreds of miles away. The Ronald McDonald House allows families to stay close to their child for as long as their child is undergoing treatment in Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin. Since we opened The Ronald McDonald House in November 2004 we have provided accommodation, care and support for more than 5,000 families from all over Ireland.
